Our Mission Statement To create a series of concert events that showcase local, regional and national blues and jazz artists, provide opportunities for Shenandoah Valley businesses to partner in these music productions and increase community awareness of blues and jazz. Shenandoah Concerts is in its second year of promoting blues and jazz in the Shenandoah Valley. An Evening of Jazz will mark the fourth in a series of events that Cheryl and John Huggins have brought to the Staunton-Augusta area since 2009. These productions have been in addition to the weekly musical performances the couple host in their popular pizza restaurant on Beverley Street in Staunton. These special events each featured a combination of artists, partnerships and business opportunities. The highlights were: · The Shenandoah Valley Blues Festival kicked off the concert series in April 2010 with Bob Margolin and a line-up of accomplished local musicians in an all-day blues festival at Oak Grove Theater in Verona. The event provided vending opportunities for many local artisans and businesses and drew several hundred blues fans. · The second in the series was the Taste of Jazz Music Festival, a free event held in June 2010 in downtown Staunton. The schedule offered a sampling of local jazz musicians. This event partnered with local non-profits and businesses to produce a celebration in honor of Bike Virginia, a bike tour that brought several thousand visitors to the area. · The third event featured The Bruce Katz Band as headliner for the Shenandoah Summer Blues Fest in August at the Steve B. Dod Amphitheater located at the Frontier Culture Museum, Staunton. This all-day event drew twice as many vendors and attendees as the April show, as word of the quality of Shenandoah Concert productions spread. Cheryl and John partnered with a number of distributors and businesses to make the event a rich source of exposure for everyone involved. “Cheryl and I believe strongly that the arts contribute to the vitality of a community and that’s why we want to support the arts in any way we can. This concert series is a way to bring touring and local performers together in new and exciting combinations,” John said following the Summer Blues Fest. “The sky’s the limit if fans keep supporting this kind of event. There’s a lot of great music to be heard in the Valley.” |
